Ja'Niya Walker wet her feet in the field of fashion as a designer who studied at the Art Institute of Seattle in 2003. She set her focus on embarking into the fashion industry with one main core value, individuality. Some of her influences range from early iconic figures such as Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn. She finds a sense of inspiration in vintage pop culture, such as the pop art scene of the early 80's - down to a radical fashion icon like Grace Jones up to the 1970's iconic sex-symbol Pam Grier, as ["Foxy Brown."] Innovative imagination from artists like pop-art visionaries of the 1980's era: Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and Jean Michel Basquait push the envelope and set their own admirable legacy. "I pull my inspiration from the past, yet fuse it with modern ideas supported by futuristic realities based on the concept of transformation."
She is guided by components both dynamic and intangible like the earths 'five natural elements,' to all of ancient Egypt. Including influences from the medieval past such as the fluidity found in antique motifs, to the artistic and medieval tapestries of the 14th century. Her vision balances concepts both historical and mathematical. "I believe everything in life is pulled together by numbers, and every numeric value has a mathematical sequence relating to a time value that plays a major role in the past, present, and future." From symbols, to fractions, to geometry, she looks for a way to bring meaning into her creations using a simple formula, math. Ja'Niya's greatest motivation is to combine sources of information, which present a familiar feeling pulled from a preserved energy of our past and fused with a futuristic touch. Her underlying intention is to bring balance to the range of artistic, emerging talent in the world of fashion design, as a valuable voice of history, and a substantial piece of the future. By staying true to her archetype, she uses her creativity, as an instrument of leadership, a vehicle of empowerment, and a fundamental force of nature, using all that she has inside, to share her vision with the world.
